low cost computing

Low cost computing is an arrangement where-in service provider’s address basic computing requirements of end users by providing cost effective PC’s. Some of the typical services include emails, chat, Internet and documentation.

Users at times do have their set of apprehensions about the quality of PC’s, monitors and other IT infrastructure. At times the infrastructure might be repurchased as second hand equipments from IT companies.

However, a lot of service providers rely on providing set up boxes, broadband modems and a monitor. Users are required to connect to the internetwork of service providers and access the resources on a web enabled hard disk. Low cost computing involves the concept of cloud computing. Services and softwares like Microsoft office, imaging softwares, music players etc are installed on the web directory and users can share; upload and view their files in real time.
Not all service providers in low cost computing work on the premise of cloud computing or virtualization of resources. A larger chunk amongst them believes in providing all necessary infrastructures at the client side.

One if the major drawbacks of the arrangement are that most of the softwares are pre-loaded and cannot be altered. New softwares cannot be either installed.
